Steins;Gate's 'Satellite,' K-ON Train Inspire Model Kits

PLATZ to release 1/1000 Radio Kaikan building, 1/150 train kits in July

The Japanese plastic model maker PLATZ will release model kits of Akihabara's Radio Kaikan building with the "satellite" from Steins;Gate and Ōtsu City's K-ON! train in July. The Radio Kaikan model will be a 1/1000 scale model priced at 2,730 yen (about US$34), while the train will be a 1/150 scale model and cost 4,830 yen (US$60) at retail price. The online retailer Amazon's Japanese website is currently accepting pre-orders for both kits.

A satellite-like object crashes into the iconic Radio Kaikan complex in the Steins;Gate game and anime's story. A recreation of the object (pictured upper right) appeared at the real-life building in Tokyo's Akihabara district in October 2011, and it returned in January. Radio Kaikan's neon sign was disassembled last month as part of the building's planned demolition.

Inspired by the K-ON! anime film, Keihan Railway launched an actual "Ho-kago Tea Time Train" in August 2011. The train ran from the Ishiyamadera station to the Sakamoto station in Ōtsu City until late December. Like the original train, PLATZ's model will feature graphics of the four girls in the K-ON! anime's high school band.
