Nintendo of America confirmed via its Twitter account on Wednesday that the Nintendo Power magazine will cease publication with the upcoming December issue, ending its 24-year run as Nintendo's official periodical. Nintendo of America did not comment on if it will consider reviving the magazine in an all-digital format. Current subscribers to the magazine are asked to direct their inquiries to Nintendo Power's customer service department.
Nintendo Power contained official Nintendo-related news, game strategies, tips, and reviews. The monthly publication became a staple of the gaming world with its first issue published in 1988 highlighting Super Mario Brothers 2. In 2007, Nintendo shifted the publishing and distributing duties of the magazine to Future US, Inc, the American subsidiary of U.K. publisher Future plc. The move allowed the magazine to expand, taking on exclusives and interviews that could not be found elsewhere.
The magazine's latest issue (pictured at right) went on sale on August 7.
