Lost in Translation
Record of Lodoss War Author Ryo Mizuno revealed in posts to his Twitter account earlier this month that he would be revising his 1988 Record of Lodoss War: The Grey Witch for a new edition to be published by Kadokawa Shoten in time for it and the Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko light novel imprint's 25th anniversaries.
In a blog post by Mizuno, he admits that reading the novel he wrote over two decades ago feels like reading the work of a completely different person. Mizuno also revealed that the extent of the revisions made to the new edition will be the "minimum that is required," acknowledging that some fans wanted the original title to be re-released with no revisions.
Record of Lodoss War began as a series of magazine articles that recounted the pencil-and-paper role-playing game sessions of players who called themselves Group SNE. Those adventures evolved into a series of novels that now have 10 million copies in print. The novels in turn inspired manga, two original video anime projects, a television anime series, and two animated film projects.
