Top Secret Manga Gets Spinoff Series

posted on by Ko Ransom
Reiko Shimizu's manga adapted into 26-episode anime in 2008

The preview for the December issue of Hakusensha's Melody magazine has revealed that Reiko Shimizu's Himitsu - Top Secret philosophical science fiction suspense manga will receive a spinoff series titled Himitsu - The Genesis. The new title will tell the story of the agent Maki prior to the events of the original manga. The December issue of Melody is scheduled to be released in Japan on October 27, and the first chapter of the new series will be 72 pages long with some color pages.

The current October issue of Melody also includes a clear file and a postcard featuring original illustrations by Shimizu. Both the 11th volume as well as the 12th and final collected of Himitsu - Top Secret will be released simultaneously on October 29.

Himitsu - Top Secret was adapted into the Top Secret ~The Revelation~ television anime series in 2008. The story of the series takes place five decades from now, when brain scanners have been perfected to the point that the government can retrieve up to five years' worth of memories from people's minds — even if they are dead. The investigators of the National Research Institute of Police Science's 9th Forensics Laboratory must weigh the ethical choices in the ultimate invasion of privacy as they delve into people's minds to solve crimes.
