Lost in Translation
The official website for the Puella Magi Madoka Magica franchise revealed seven of the international posters for the first two films on Friday. The posters depict the main cast against a different background to match each country or city.
Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 1: Beginnings opened in Japan on October 6 and Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part 2: Eternal followed on October 13. Aniplex of America and Eleven Arts began screening these two films in Los Angeles on Friday, with more screenings in New York, Chicago, Houston, and San Francisco on Saturday. While supplies last, the Los Angeles attendees will receive a United States poster and a reproduction sketch by original character designer Ume Aoki.
The films are also playing in 13 other cities in seven other countries this year. (Italy and San Marino are the other two countries not listed in the posters above.)
The third film, Gekijō-ban Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magica Shinpen: Hangyaku no Monogatari (Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie New Feature: Rebellion), will open next year. Writer Gen Urobuchi had revealed that the third film, with its all-new plot, will not be the end of the Madoka Magica story. He also noted that the staff is considering a new television series afterwards, for which he would like to bring in new writers.
