Live-Action Library War Film Reveals More of Cast in Costume

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Additional cast for next year's live-action Library War film adaptation were announced on Saturday. Chiaki Kuriyama, Kōji Ishizaka, Kei Tanaka, Jun Hashimoto, Naomi Nishida and Sōta Fukushi join the supporting cast with V6 idol group member Junichi Okada and Nana Eikura.

Kuriyama will play Asako Shibasaki, Ishizaka will play Gen Nishina, Tanaka will play Mikihisa Komaki, Fukushi will play Hikaru Tezuka, Hashimoto will play Ryūsuke Genda, and Nishida will play Maki Origuchi. Okada, Eikura, Kuriyama, Ishizaka, Tanaka, and Fukushi were all photographed in costume to promote the film. Shinsuke Satō (Gantz, Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror, The Princess Blade, Sand Chronicles) is directing.

Hiro Arikawa's popular action novel series Library War (Toshokan Sensō) is set in a future version of Japan. A law threatens to clamp down on freedom of expression in 2019, and Iku joins the Library Defense Force, a military unit dedicated to protecting books from being confiscated. However, she finds that the job of her childhood dreams is harder than she bargained for, especially with her hard-nosed instructor Atsushi.

The novel series' six volumes have over 2.8 million copies in print. They already inspired two manga series (one in the shōjo magazine LaLa, and another in the male-oriented Monthly Comic Dengeki Daioh), a television anime series, and this year's anime film Toshokan Sensō: Kakumei no Tsubasa (Library War: The Wings of Revolution).

The live-action film will open throughout Japan on April 27.
