NHK Radio Show Holds Anime Heroine #1 Popularity Vote

Top 10 to compete in live radio show to mark Astro Boy anime's 50th anniversary

NHK's Shibuya Anime Land radio show announced that it would be launching a vote for the number one anime heroine in the past 50 years. The poll is in celebration of 50 years since the first airing of Japan's first major broadcast of anime with the airing of Mighty Ato (Astro Boy). The website allows fans to vote for any of their favorite heroines with a free vote. 10 top contenders will be left standing for the live radio broadcast, when the hosts will then prompt fans to once again vote, this time for only one heroine of the 10. The one heroine left remaining will be dubbed "Heroine Number One."

The form requires participants to fill in the following:

  • Heroine's name:
  • How to read heroine's name (in hiragana):
  • Anime Title:
  • How to read anime title (in hiragana):
  • Why you like her:
  • Your name:
  • How to read your name (in hiragana):
  • Where you live (overseas is the option at the very bottom):
  • Age:
  • Gender:

The deadline for the top ten voting is December 9. The live radio show will broadcast in Japan on NHK Radio on January 2.
