The Mysterious Cities of Gold Game Gets Kickstarter for English Release

French/Japanese show inspires puzzle infiltration game for Wii U, 3DS, iPad, iPhone

French indie video game studios Neko Entertainment and Ynnis Interactive opened a Kickstarter on Wednesday to localize the upcoming game The Mysterious Cities of Gold: Secret Paths into English with a Spanish subtitle option, as well as to offer a PC port of the game. The Kickstarter's goal is US$30,000, and extra funds from the Kickstarter will be used to expand to more languages. The game is currently on track for release this fall in France for the Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, iPad, and iPhone.

The Mysterious Cities of Gold: Secret Paths is a puzzle and infiltration game based on the French and Japanese animated series The Mysterious Cities of Gold, where players control the three main characters alternately. The storyline is designed to be faithful to the series, with each level representing a location from the show.

The Mysterious Cities of Gold was a co-production between France's DiC studio and Japan's Studio Pierrot. The show was broadcast on children's BBC in the 1980s, and in North America on Nickelodeon. In Japan, it was shown on NHK as Taiyo no Ko Esteban or Esteban, a Boy from the Sun. A sequel, produced in France, began airing in 2012.

Set in the sixteenth century, the series chronicles the adventures of three children, the boys Esteban and Tao and the girl Zia (plus the parrot Kokapetl), as they seek the legendary cities of gold in South America.
