Music Box Gives Manga Panels Their Own Soundtrack

Finally, music to read your manga by. Created by Japanese design group Mieru Record, the Otowa is a charming little device that combines manga with a traditional hand-cranked music box. Readers feed a strip of perforated illustrations into the device and crank a small handle either fast or slow, in accordance with instructions printed in the "manga."

The Otowa was sponsored by Japanese papermaker Tokyo Shiki, and won a jury's prize at the 17th Annual Japan Media Arts Festival.
