New Charity Goods for Tsunami Relief at Pokemon Center

posted on by Eric Stimson
Pouches, mugs, Spanish tiles, and more

While it's already been three years since the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami battered the eastern Japanese coast, relief and reconstruction efforts remain a concern in Japan. Pokémon Center is doing its part to support the effort with new charity goods to go on sale this Saturday.

The goods consist of a postcard (¥200/$1.96), a clear file (¥250/$2.46), stickers (¥300/$2.95), a handkerchief (¥350/$3.44), a bracelet (¥389/$3.82), a notepad (¥450/$4.42), a pouch (¥580/$5.70), a mug (¥1,200/$11.79), a jigsaw puzzle (¥1,680/$16.50), a tote bag (¥1,850/$18.17), and a T-shirt (¥2,800/$27.50). They all use the same image, which is titled "To a Flower-Blooming Tomorrow," reflecting the optimism and cheer Pokémon Center hopes to inspire in the disaster area's children.

Pokémon Center will also sell an Onagawa Spanish tile Pikachu (¥2,000/$19.64), which alludes to the efforts of the nonprofit organization Minatomachi Ceramica Koubou ("Port Town Ceramics Workshop"), which aims to rejuvenate the devastated coastal village of Onagawa with brightly colored and artistic Spanish-style tiles.

Pokémon Center has been active in supporting tsunami relief efforts since 2012, when its "POKÉMON with YOU" vans toured the region offering paint and paper crafts to cheer up beleaguered kids. All proceeds from the charity goods will go to efforts to support children affected by the tsunami.
