Captain Tsubasa Art Exhibit Timed For World Cup

posted on by Bamboo Dong

The 2014 FIFA World Cup is less than two months away, and Soccer Fever is heating up around the world. To celebrate the event, a Captain Tsubasa art exhibit will be on display from June 14 to July 16 at the Ueno Royal Museum in Ueno, Tokyo.

The "The Ball is My Friend: Captain Tsubasa Exhibition" event will feature original artwork from the manga, life-sized artwork illustrated by mangaka Yōichi Takahashi, a diorama of Nankatsu City where the series is set, and a life-sized figure of series protagonist Tsubasa Oozora dressed in the Japanese national team kit. Visitors can also purchase special merchandise in the gift shop.

Tickets are ¥400 for elementary school students, ¥800 for junior high and high school students, and ¥1,600 for adults. Those who purchase tickets in advance can take advantage of a ¥200 discount, as well as the opportunity to purchase a t-shirt based on the Nankatsu School FC team jersey.

Check out the event's official website for more information, and for a greeting from former Japanese national team center back Tsuneyasu Miyamoto.

The Captain Tsubasa manga website is also hosting a series of "Dream Shoot" videos, where professional soccer players reenact iconic moves from the series.

A new manga series, Captain Tsubasa: Rising Sun, began in Shueisha's Grand Jump this past December 28.
