Japan's New Holiday Snack: Strawberry Shortcake Potato Chips

Christmas and New Year's are big snack holidays in Japan, specifically cake. A quick Google search will tell you that tasty treats with decorative strawberries are also popular. However, only the most dedicated to eat a whole cake by themselves, so snack brand Koikeya is introducing its strawberry shortcake-flavored potato chips starting on December 21.
The manufacturers assured consumers that the chips are actually tasty. The company opened reservations by the case on December 8. One case of 12 bags costs 1,980 yen (US$16).
Japanese snack foods maker Calbee has unveiled its new potato chip flavor, Coke, this week. Previous unusual Japanese potato chip flavors have included curry (also by Calbee) and rose-scented vinegar (courtesy of Koike-ya).
