Upcoming Horror Film Rain Woman to be Screened in 4DX

posted on by Eric Stimson
Format lets you feel water, wind, motion and more

Takashi Shimizu (Juon: The Grudge) is famous for his frightening horror movies, and his latest offering, Ame Onna ("Rain Woman"), seems like it won't disprove his reputation. The film follows Rika (Nana Seino), who's sinking into depression and alienating her boyfriend, Ryū (Shuntarō Yanagi). Every night she has the same dream: a little girl waits for a train in the pouring rain. A woman appears before her in the tracks, soaking wet, dressed in black, and protecting a young boy. Suddenly a train hits her. Then on her mother's deathday, Rika decides to go back to her hometown...

WARNING: It gets a little bloody.

As if the atmospheric weather and creepy story aren't enough, Shimizu wants to up the ante with the 4DX format. This interactive screening experience uses customized seats to let viewers feel the water hit their skin, the wind blow through their hair, the rumbles of an oncoming train, the smoke and heat of a raging fire. They even produce appropriate scents. Shimizu designed the movie specifically to make use of this format. "Of course, the most important thing for a movie is that it affects your mood," Shimizu explains. "I made Ame Onna as a 4DX movie to make you experience a new kind of film. Be sure to come meet Ame Onna in the theater. How will your heart be shaken when you meet her?"

Ame Onna will be released in "early summer" (which happens to be the rainy season in Japan). The Girls und Panzer film has also been screened in 4DX, the better to let viewers experience the tremor of a tank and the smell of diesel exhaust.
