Virtual Reality Developer Creates 3 Studio Ghibli Scenes to Explore

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

While many a developer has used the Oculus Rift and other virtual reality headsets as opportunities for virtual groping, dates, and smooching Hatsune Miku, UK-based studio Fire Panda created a demo with three scenes from beloved Studio Ghibli films for users to explore.

In the demo is the boiler room from Spirited Away, the bus stop from My Neighbor Totoro, and the meadow from Howl's Moving Castle. Gamer Jeffrey Grub booted up the demo to give all of us without an Oculus Rift headset a look.

Nick Pittom first showed the Totoro Bus Stop scene for Oculus Rift in 2014. He, along with Keith Sizemore, Nathan Beattie, and Jason Storey expanded on the original for this new demo.

Fans have regularly returned to Ghibli classics for inspiration, whether its dreaming up a full-size theme park, cooking something delicious, or building meticulous models.
