Special Shin Godzilla Screening Allows Shouting, Cosplay, Light Sticks

posted on by Amanda Ellard

The official website for the current Shin Godzilla movie announced a special "shouting-is-allowed screening" at the Shinjuku Wald 9 cinema on August 15. In this screening, attendees are allowed to shout, come in cosplay, and even bring their own light sticks.

Tickets went on sale starting midnight on August 8 at Shinjuku Wald 9's website and sold out in minutes.

There have also been other eccentric "screaming screenings," such as one for the Mad Max film that allowed participants to bring their own musical instruments, such as drums.

This film is the 29th Godzilla film by TOHO and the first new Godzilla film from Japan in 12 years. The movie opened in theaters in Japan on July 29. Evangelion director Hideaki Anno and live-action Attack on Titan film director Shinji Higuchi collaborated on the film. Anno served as chief director and writer, while Higuchi also helped direct the film and served as visual effects director. Hiroki Hasegawa (live-action Attack on Titan films' Shikishima), Yutaka Takenouchi (Hoshi no Kinka), and Satomi Ishihara (live-action Attack on Titan's Hans/Hanji) star in the film and Mansai Nomura (Kyōgen stage actor, Onmyoji) plays the Shin Godzilla through motion capture.

The film opened in Japan on July 29, and has IMAX, MX4D, and 4DX screenings.

FUNimation Entertainment announced at Comic Con International that it will release Shin Godzilla. It plans to release the film in theaters in North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean in late 2016.
