Gantz:O, Mr. Osomatsu Fuse Together in Weird CG World Magazine Collab Cover

posted on by Amanda Ellard

The six Mr. Osomatsu brothers get a GANTZ:O makeover for the October 8th cover of CG graphics magazine CG World. The Gantz character Jōichirō Nishi from the "full 3D CG" anime film GANTZ:O appears with different wacky expressions in the brothers' colors and pose amidst the movie's setting of Osaka's neon Dōtonbori district.

The magazine includes a feature article about the GANTZ:O film, overseen by Keiichi Satou and based off the Osaka arc of Hiroya Oku's Gantz manga. Digital Frontier's staff, the creators of GANTZ:O's 3DCG animation, drew up the rough sketch of the collaboration out of their own love for the Osomatsu-san series.

The GANTZ: O film comes out in Japanese theaters on October 14. Oku launched the 37-volume Gantz manga in Shueisha's Young Jump magazine in 2000, and ended the manga in 2013. The series since inspired a television anime series animated by Gonzo (and released by Funimation in North America) and two live-action films (released by NEW PEOPLE Entertainment).

Fujio Akatsuka launched the original Osomatsu-kun manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in 1962 until 1969. The original story centered on the Matsuno household, which has six mischievous sextuplet sons. The Mr. Osomatsu series that premiered last October, re-imagines the original story with the sextuplets as adults. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan. The anime series is also inspiring a new ongoing manga adaptation by Masako Shitara, an upcoming PlayStation Vita game, and a stage play adaptation.
