Doraemon & Nobita Make Landfall on Antarctica

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Nobita, Doraemon, and his friends are heading to Antarctica for their latest adventure in Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Nankyoku Kachi Kochi Daibōken (Doraemon the Movie 2017: Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi). To celebrate the film, Nobita and Doraemon actually went to visit the penguins in the extreme cold 14,000 km away from Japan.

Antarctica was the duo's second stop after first visiting Argentina on December 26 for an event organized by the Japanese embassy. The two anime ambassadors showed off their dancing skills by performing The Pao Pao Dance. They then departed from Argentina's southern most city of Ushuaia on December 28 and greeted the first sunrise of 2017 where the sun doesn't set for half the year. On January 9, Doraemon and Nobita took commemorative photos with local penguins.

The promotional trip is also serving as a TV special. On January 27 the "Antarctic Adventure Quiz" program will air and answer questions sent in by children. Mysteries like, "Is it faster for a penguin to slide or run?" and "Do people live in Antarctica?" will be solved.

The "Antarctica Kachi Kochi-tai," consisting of figure skaters Nobunari Oda and Mai Asada, cheered on Nobita and Doraemon. Oda said he'd like to visit Antarctica using Doraemon's Anywhere Door and he's waiting to get a souvenir from the South Pole. Asada said she is praying that Nobita and Doraemon arrive safely and that she's looking forward to their story about Antarctica.

The film will premiere in Japan on March 4 as the 37th film in the Doraemon franchise.
