Morning Two Manga Magazine Celebrates Cat Day with Special "Morning Nyan" Collection
posted on by Eric Stimson
February 22 is Cat Day in Japan, so deemed because of its three 2s ("two" sounds like nyā, "meow," in Japanese). To celebrate the occasion, the seinen manga magazine Monthly Morning two included a special section to its April issue called "Morning Nyan." It involves no less than 15 cat-related manga, including Yomawari Neko ("The Cat Night Watchman"), Neko no Kohana ("Little Flower the Cat"), Yatsura no Ashioto no Ballad ("The Ballad of Their Footsteps"), and Gokudō no Neko-tachi ("The Wicked Cats").
"Don't get in meow way."
In a country that loves cats so much it made one a (very popular) train stationmaster, Cat Day has become an annual event. This year, cat festivals were held in different locations in Tokyo and Yokohama, where visitors took pictures of themselves wearing cat heads, participated in cat workshops, ate cat-themed foods, learned more about raising cats, or just pet cats.
Those outside of Japan interested in celebrating cats might want to wait until August 8, which is the international Cat Day designated by the International Fund for Animal Welfare. (Of course, true cat lovers will just celebrate them whenever they feel like it.)
