Naoki Urasawa Manga Documentary TV Series Returns for 4th Season

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

NHK's documentary television series Urasawa Naoki no Manben (roughly translated, "Naoki Urasawa's Manga Exertions") will return for a fourth season on March 2. Veteran manga artist Naoki Urasawa (Monster, 20th Century Boys; pictured right in below image) hosts the program that showcases prominent manga artists. The show discusses the guest manga artists' individual styles, work methods, and workplaces from the point of view of a fellow manga artist.

Reiko Shimizu (Himitsu - Top Secret, Moon Child), Junji Ito (Tomie, Uzumaki), Naoki Yamamoto (Arigatou, Blue), and Takumi Nagayasu (Mibu Gishiden, Poppoya; pictured left in above image) will appear in the fourth season. The program will mark Nagayasu's first appearance on television. Actress Haruka Kinami (live-action 20th Century Boys film, live-action Clover film) will also appear on the documentary series.

Shimizu will feature on the documentary program on March 3, followed by Ito, Yamamoto, and Nagayasu in the next three consecutive weeks. Episodes will air on NHK Educational TV on Thursdays at 10:00 p.m.

Moto Hagio (Queen Margot, They Were Eleven), Kengo Hanazawa (I am a Hero, Boys on the Run), Daisuke Igarashi (Saru, Children of the Sea), and Usamaru Furuya (Tei'ichi no Kuni, Lychee Light Club) appeared in the second season last spring. Other artists previously featured on the show include Kazuhiro Fujita, Ryōichi Ikegami, Kaiji Kawaguchi, Akiko Higashimura, and Takao Saitō.
