Pac-Man Rickshaw Gobbles Octopus Balls in Osaka This Weekend

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

Bandai Namco Entertainment's Asobi Motto project announced that its Pac-Man rickshaw will appear in Osaka as the project's fourth part. The Pac-Man rickshaw will be available to ride in the area around Osaka's Tsūtenkaku tower on Saturday and Sunday.

The two-meter (about seven-foot) tall Pac-Man rickshaw will chase after takoyaki octopus balls, a famous food of Osaka. People wearing takoyaki hats will appear with the rickshaw.

The Osaka sightseeing rickshaw company Shatenriki is collaborating on the project. The rickshaw's course will take about 10 minutes. Riding will be free, but people who want to ride must participate in a ticket lottery. Two people can fit in the rickshaw at one time, and up to 22 people will be able to ride during the two-day campaign.

The rickshaw is equipped with a Pixelstick device that will allow people to take long-exposure photographs to reveal a special image on an LED display. The special image will feature the message "Hello! Osaka," Ghosts, and takoyaki pac-dots.

The Pac-Man rickshaw debuted in Tokyo's Asakusa district from December 23 to December 25. Bandai Namco Entertainment streamed a "night cruising" video for the rickshaw December.

Six rickshaws featuring designs inspired by Kōji Kumeta and Yasu's Joshiraku comedy manga rolled out in 2012.
