Yuzu Fairies Share the Joy of Citrus Liquor in Promotional Anime

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Animation studio Fanworks has created a short web anime series to promote brewing company Ume no Yado's Yuzu citrus liquor. Yuzu7 is made in conjunction with Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) to spread awareness of Japan's local products worldwide.

The series stars seven fairies, meant to represent the liquor's use of seven yuzu fruit. The fairies spread happiness wherever they go. The episodes include English narration.

The shorts are directed by Maya Matsuyama, written by Masako Imai, and the characters are designed by Yuki Koishikawa. Fanworks previously created the Little Girl Anzu (Anzu-chan) short and the Hagane Orchestra, Honobono Log, and Gakkatsu! TV anime shorts.

Japanese beer company Kirin hired Trigger's Fukuoka branch to produce a commercial last year but it was pulled from YouTube among claims that it encouraged underage drinking. Fans argued back that it should not have been pulled at all. Mr. Osomatsu's Matsuno brothers promoted SUNTORY's All-Free non-alcoholic beer, and a promotional anime was created for Fussa's local breweries.
