Phantom Thief Jeanne Creator Arina Tanemura Talk Event Scheduled for February

posted on by Lynzee Loveridge

Fans that snagged one of Proplica's Phantom Thief Jeanne Rosary Sets could get a chance to meet creator Arina Tanemura in February. Tanemura will appear at a talk show in Tokyo on February 9, 2019 but the only way to get one of the 100 tickets is to purchase the rosary set, send off the enclosed application postcard, and cross your fingers. Tickets will be awarded via lottery and applications will be accepted until January 14.

Five fans will get extra lucky and get a handwritten autograph after getting their name chosen in a second lottery of just the talk event attendees.

Bandai Spirits' Proplica brand announced the Phantom Thief Jeanne Rosary Sets in June. The set features a full-size Rosary that recreates the title character's transformation item. A painting-style mirror, stand, and four illustration sheets complete the set. In addition to the four previously revealed illustrations, the first copies of the set will include a completely new illustration from Tanemura. By using the Rosary, fans can make the illustrations appear in the mirror. Houko Kuwashima, who voices Jeanne in the manga's anime adaptation, created new recordings for the release, and fans who buy the set can hear her say Jeanne's "Checkmate!" catchphrase.

The set costs 12,960 yen (about US$119) and was released in November.

Tanemura's manga ran in Shueisha's Ribon magazine from 1998 to 2000. The manga inspired a television anime series in 1999. CMX Comics released all seven volumes of the series in English, and Viz Media released the manga in five volumes.

Tanemura is also the creator of the Time Stranger Kyoko, Full Moon O Sagashite, and Idol Dreams manga, among others. She also contributed the original character designs for the IDOLiSH7 multimedia franchise and the upcoming Alice Closet mobile game.
