Publisher Hakusensha Launches Blog 'Manga Lab!' with Contests
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Japanese publisher Hakusensha launched its Manga Lab! blog on March 1. The site offers opportunities for aspiring artists to publish their work and receive feedback from Hakusensha's editorial department. The user-submitted manga is published simultaneously on Manga Lab! and Hakusensha's app Manga Park.
A beta version of the program was launched on February 12 and garnered over 450 registered users and 240 submitted works.
The staff are celebrating the launch with a manga contest. Hakusensha's editor-in-chiefs of LaLa, Hana to Yume, Melody, and Young Animal magazines and the Manga Park site will select five winners to serialize manga for Manga Park. Another contest to select the "next generation character" is underway until March 31 in partnership with LINE and King Records. The winner of that contest will see their original character star in their own manga and debut on the LINE messaging app.
