News Pioneer recalls Lain dub, Fushigi Yuugi vol. 7 sub
posted on 1999-07-20 00:00 EDT
Pioneer has announced their second recall in less than a week, this time the entire first run of the dubbed version of Serial Experiments Lain: Navi. These tapes were accidentally duplicated with the Japanese audio track, and since there are no subtitles, the tape is the equivilent of the Japanese issue. The subtitled and DVD releases are not affected.
Last week, the subtitled version of Fushigi Yuugi volume 7 was recalled due to a similar duplication error: the entire run was duplicated with volume one instead. Again, the dubbed release is not affected.
Those who bought these tapes are asked to return them immediately to the place where they bought them for a refund. Replacement tapes will be made available soon, and can be told apart from the defective copies by a small white dot that will appear above the Pioneer logo on the back of the box.

While the story still has its logical flaws, it remains an engaging read that holds up well despite the passing of years and this volume continues to keep up both the promise and nostalgia of Takeuchi's masterwork.
Overall, neither Pokemon the Movie: Black or its White counterpart really stands out from the already packed herd. While not terrible, these are films that can be safely left alone unless you or your child have a compulsion to truly catch 'em all.
If the delicious blend of action, intrigue, and the supernatural drew you in during the first volume then the second will not fail to sustain your interest and enthusiasm. Its clever adaptation of actual history remains a particular highlight.
