I''s Preview Edited in Jump
posted on 2005-04-19 11:55 EDTAs previously reported, Viz's graphic novel release of I''s was lightly censored to cover up some nudity. We've now been informed that Viz's preview of I''s in the current issue of Shonen Jump USA has received a few extra edits to censor suggestive material. In particular, sound effects have been added to cover bikini-shots and the dialog has been edited to remove mild innuendo. More details about the edits are available here.

Another in the growing field of otaku-
Forget that it was based on a game only two generations removed from Pong; this is unexpectedly involving popcorn fare with a wickedly circular sense of humor. Good stuff all around.

The (small) boost in emotional content notwithstanding, this is still the series to hit up for a watching experience that is consistently fun and never taxing.

Magikano: The Complete Series DVD
This is a collection of gags in search of a plotline, and when it finally does find a story to tell, the change in tone is so abrupt that you end up wishing it had stayed pointless and stupid.

A young man becomes obsessed with a young woman who can transform into an alien biomechanical dragon in this weak effort from Gonzo. While not a total disaster, it does not give much hope for the rest of the series.

Rosario + Vampire GN 9
If this is the kind of stagnation and dullness that permeates the monster world, then we should all be thankful for being human.

Battle Angel Alita: Last Order GN 12
Alita is back and even more powerful than ever, but aside from a couple of fantastic scenes the story progression lacks the sense of excitement and anticipation commonly seen earlier in the series. Seeing one of the all-time-great sci fi action series in such a storytelling decline is saddening.

If all the words were removed with an eraser, it would be a beautiful story. The characters are so romantic and wonderfully drawn that it's like being sucked into a beautiful margarine commercial, with hazy lens effects and hunky men.
