New anime convention for Sydney - SMASH

posted on by Jon Hayward
Sydney may be graced with a new convention - The Sydney Manga And Anime SHow. (SMASH) Their recent announcements have been towards gathering support and awareness as well as laying down the initial groundwork with their first meeting, which was on the 24th February.

Their aim is to create a convention where the costs to attend will be very cheap, but still provide similar events to what larger, mainstream conventions such as Animania, Supanova and Manifest provide to their attendees, focusing on Anime, Manga and Gaming related events.

The convention is tentatively slated for a second half debut of 2007, and currently the cost of entry is estimated to be five dollars per person for the one day event. The location of the event has not been finalised, although it has been suggested that it will occur at the UNSW Roundhouse.

One of their main motivations for this new convention according to those involved has been the disparency of costs between attendance costs from an artist and general attendee perspective from Animania compared to other conventions elsewhere, prompting for the action to create their own new convention.
