A live-action adaptation of Fumiyo Kono's manga Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The film will open in Japanese theaters on July 28. The Comics Journal describes this one-volume manga, which was awarded the Grand Prize at the 2004 Japan Media Arts Festival, as "a meditation on the lingering after-effects of the bombing of Hiroshima in 1945." Selling over 180,000 copies in Japan, Town of Evening Calm… is also the winner of the 2005 Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize. It is being published in the US by Last Gasp Books. Source: Manga News
