New Japantown hotel "fuses modern design with Japanese pop culture," features gaming suites equipped with PS3s and Wiis. Update: Links to sites with images are now included.

The Hotel & Motel Management news website is profiling a new hotel that is set to open in the Japantown neighborhood of San Francisco on June 1. According to the article, ideas for colors, art, and overall interior design of Hotel Tomo, formerly the Best Western Miyako Inn, were derived from anime, manga, and Japanese street fashion. Some of the features within the guest rooms will include 26-inch LCD flat panel TVs and iPod docking stations, and the hotel will also offer guests the option of booking one of two "gaming suites" equipped with beanbag chairs, 6-foot TV screens, and Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii consoles.

The hotel opening is part of a larger neighborhood revival that also includes Shogakukan's J-Pop Center. As overseen by Viz Media chairman Seiji Horibuchi, the center will house an art-house theatre, a "J-Pop bookstore," a cafe, and girls' fashion stores a block away from the hotel.

Update: Images of a sample room are available at the Joie de Vivre Hospitality and HotelChatter sites.
