Someday's Dreamers to be Made into Live-Action Film
posted on 2007-10-23 14:53 EDTNorie Yamada and Kumichi Yoshizuki's Someday's Dreamers (Mahō Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto) magical slice-of-life manga is being adapted into a live-action film for release in Japan in Summer of 2008. The movie will star 15-year-old model and actress Rio Yamashita (Tokyo Girl drama) as a budding mage learning to use her powers in Tokyo. Director Shun Nakahara (Tomie: Forbidden Fruit) has been shooting the film from September 29 until the end of October. Tokyopop released the original manga in English in 2006, and Geneon Entertainment (USA) Inc. released the animated version in English in 2003. Thanks, dormcat. Source: Ultimatum

This month's piece of old-school trash is Dog Soldier, the awful Rambo-cum-City Hunter OAV that tries to be intelligent and fails spectacularly.

It is not every day that one stumbles across a josei manga that will undoubtedly have both guys and gals cheering from the rafters for the protagonist. Run—don't walk—for your copy of Walkin' Butterfly.
One Del Rey editor is on record saying that Mushishi “was something we had to do for the readers of tomorrow.” Read it and see for yourself why it's worth being handed down to the next generation.

A whimsical romantic comedy about five art-college students, it's possessed of a sweet romanticism, tinged with melancholy, and driven by events unpredictable enough to be called realistic.

Those not familiar with otaku culture should use caution when approaching Fujoshi Rumi. Humor that has to be explained isn't funny, and you are unlikely to fully appreciate these books unless you're already a card-carrying otaku.
Ragnarok The Animation DVD 3
Given the epic awfulness of the first two-thirds of this series, it comes as no small surprise that this concluding third actually does not (entirely) suck. It actually manages some good moments in ascending to the level of mediocrity.

The creators must have been hoping that viewers would be too distracted by all the talking heads lecturing on about wishes and free will to notice that this anime series is undistinguished in virtually every particular.
Minima! GN 1
An entertaining little ditty of a story that just goes to show that, once again, you should never ever judge a book by its cover. Minima!, much like its meerkat toy hero, comes to exuberant life when you're least expecting it.

All questions lingering from the first half get answered as this awesome visual spectacle concludes. Its story and writing may be nothing special, but with visuals like these, who cares?
