MediaCorp, the Singapore-based broadcasting and media distribution company, has announced that it will be distributing Rintarō's 3D CGI-animated feature film Yona Yona Penguin in Singapore and Malaysia. Japan's Madhouse and France's Denis Friedman Productions are co-producing the work. The film is set to premiere worldwide in the middle of 2009. Besides Japan, film has already been sold for release in 11 markets, including the United Kingdom, France, and the Commonwealth of Independent States. Shochiku Film plans to work with Madhouse's American division to release the film in the United States.
Rintarō is directing Yona Yona Penguin from a script co-written by Tomoko Komparu and Dominique Lavigne. The movie has previously been described as a story of "a little girl who gets sucked into a fantasy world populated by goblins who believe that their saviour will be a penguin." According to MediaCorp, the film deals with "the adventures of three characters from three different worlds, who travel to an enchanted land."
