posted on 2008-05-21 12:09 EDT
The July issue (released on May 19) of Takeshobo's Manga Club Original magazine has announced that a Flash-animated production of Munko's Ganbare! Memeko-chan four-panel comedy manga has been green-lit. The manga follows the life of a short office lady (female company worker) and her friends. It began in the magazine as a one-shot story in late 2004, but became a full-fledged series in the spring of 2005. The first and thus far only compiled volume shipped in October of 2006. The August issue (on sale on June 19) of Manga Club Original will feature a full-color feature on the production of the anime.

The Blu Ray version of this dark, graphic fantasy series about blond female warriors wielding big swords offers very little that the original DVD releases did not. Though the series shows pronounced shonen influences, it is still, at essence, a very human story, and that makes all the difference.

Ai Yori Aoshi ~Enishi~ takes a stand against the chauvinistic excesses of harem anime ... a welcome alternative to other romantic comedies that are permanently set on "hyper"—but it also threatens to lull the viewer to sleep.
