News Kodomo no Jikan (Nymphet) Appears in U.S. Newspaper Ads (Updated)
posted on 2008-06-19 23:57 EDT
An advertisement for a digital television converter box in The Oregonian and other American newspapers this week included an image from Kodomo no Jikan (Nymphet), an anime with mature themes about preadolescent children. The section of the ad with the image claims the box "includes free parental control by simply pushing a button so parents can block unwanted channels and profanity on their TV." The Portland, Oregon television station KATU filed a report on the ad; the report noted that the advertiser charges excessive warranty and shipping fees for the "free" converter, but the report did not mention the anime image.
Thank you to dormcat for the news tip and teh*darkness for the links.
Update: Borderline Hikikomori includes an image of the ad.

There is but one volume remaining to Ouran High School Host Club, and it has been a fun ride. While this book doesn't quite live up the earlier ones in terms of pure, lighthearted enjoyment, it is still solidly entertaining.
Cage of Eden has all of the elements of a classic survival epic – monsters, diseases, an unfriendly wilderness with no perceived escape, and our own ability as humans to lie. While it can be laid on a bit thick at times, and the fanservice or treatment of the adult female characters may be objectionable to some, Yamada's story is an engrossing one.
Nothing here shakes up the series the way parts of the last volume did, but it's consummate entertainment nonetheless: slick and effortlessly propulsive, yet still respectful of its audience and characters.

Detroit Metal City should perhaps have been half the length it is, but it goes out with, if not a bang, then a promise. Soichi resolves some of his internal issues, makes an effort to get the girl of his dreams, and finds a kind of happiness. If you've stuck with the series this long, there's really no reason to stop before finishing it.
