NYC Food Magazine Interviews Paprika's Satoshi Kon

posted on 2008-08-21 00:24 EDT

The current September issue of Chopsticks, a New York City magazine that mainly covers the city's Japanese restaurant scene, features an interview with the acclaimed anime director Satoshi Kon. He was in New York earlier this summer as the Film Society of Lincoln Center hosted a retrospective of his anime films.

In the interview, Kon talks about the difficulty of identifying a particular source of inspiration for his films. "It is not a matter of my will making something a certain way, but rather me catching how an idea or the issue before my eyes wants to turn out," he says. Kon also discusses his views on the role of computer graphics in contemporary animation, and shares his thoughts on themes that are becoming of interest to him, such as the recent Akihabara stabbing rampage.

Update: ANN has posted an in-depth interview with Kon today.
