Popular mystery puzzle games already have live-action movie plans, manga

The game developer Level5 announced at its Level5 Vision 2008 event on Friday that it has green-lit a theatrical anime project for its popular Professor Layton puzzle games. In each game, the title character solves a central mystery through a series of puzzles in a fantasy setting. Level5 (Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King, Rogue Galaxy) had already announced at last year's Vision event that a live-action movie is in also in the works. The third Professor Layton game, Reiton-kyōju to Saigo no Jikan Ryokō, will be released in Japan on November 27, while the first game, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, shipped in North America earlier this year.

Sakura Naoki began drawing a Professor Layton manga in this year's February issue of Shogakukan's Bessatsu CoroCoro Comic magzine. Level5 is working on a separate Ni no Kuni game project with in-game anime footage from Studio Ghibli (Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind, Only Yesterday, Spirited Away).
