Kodansha hopes to attract new readers to avant-garde manga magazine

The Japanese publisher Kodansha has posted all the pages from the 14th issue of Morning 2 manga magazine online on Wednesday — the same day that the 15th physical issue shipped in Japan. The online version of the magazine requires the free Crochet browser plug-in. Kodansha will eventually post three issues online. The publisher will take 14th issue offline and post the 15th issue in November, and then the publisher will post the 16th issue in December.

The magazine staff says it is posting these issues online after hearing from readers that "the magazine's not sold here," "we can't buy it," or "we can't find it." The magazines hopes to encourage new readers to special-order the magazine or buy it at online stores.

Morning 2 launched in 2006, and has yet to reach the circulation of its better known sibling magazines, Morning and Evening. Morning 2 is best known for publishing foreign authors and avant-garde titles such as Saint Young Men (Sei Onīsan), Hikaru Nakamura's comedy about Buddha and Jesus sharing a Tokyo low-rent apartment.
