CoMix Wave to Debut Peeping Life CG TV Anime on Friday

posted on by Egan Loo
"Ennui-style slow-life anime" combines motion-captured improv with CG

CoMix Wave Films and BROSTA TV will premiere their Peeping Life comedy series on the BS Asahi premium television network on December 19. The "slow-life anime" is part of the datsuryoku-kei (ennui-style) genre of comedy that depicts the listless minutiae of everyday life. The series will combine motion-captured improvised acting with computer animation into a series of comedy shorts. Series producer Ryōichi Mori created a similar "Each Life" short that ran on NHK's BS2 premium channel on the Digital Stadium show and won an Award of Excellence at Digital Creators Convention 2007. CoMix Wave also produced Kakurenbo and the works of the one-man animation studio Makoto Shinkai (Voices of the Distant Star, 5 Centimeters Per Second).

The World of GOLDEN EGGS was the first computer-graphics datsuryoku-kei anime to become a hit with mainstream audiences; this earlier MTV Japan television series still ranks in the top weekly anime DVD sales more than three years after its debut.
