Television anime based on KOEI fantasy game for female gamers

The Crunchyroll video-sharing website has announced that it will begin streaming the Neo Angelique Abyss fantasy anime series this Friday. The anime is based on KOEI's Neo Angelique romance adventure game for female gamers. The Neo Angelique game is the fifth installment in the Angelique franchise, except it restarts the franchise with new characters and a different format of gameplay.

The story takes place in a once idyllic paradise named Arcadia that now stands threatened by magical creatures named Tanatos. Arcadia's fate lies in two factions — the religious Celestia order of knights and the Artifact technology seekers — and in Angelique, the orphaned medical student who just might hold the key to Arcadia's throne.

Shin Katagai just finished directing this anime and its sequel, Neo Angelique Abyss -Second Age-, this year. As she did for the previous Angelique projects, Kairi Yura (The Story of Saiunkoku) designed the characters that Yumeta Company (La Corda D'Oro - primo passo) animated. Besides Angelique, KOEI developed Haruka: Beyond the Stream of Time- and La Corda D'Oro - primo passo games in its Neo Romance game line for female gamers. All three Neo Romance game franchises have been adapted into anime.

There will be regular streams of the anime for free on Friday and higher-quality, ad-free streams for Crunchyroll Anime Membership subscribers on January 8.
