This year's second issue of Kodansha's Magazine Special has announced on Tuesday that a one-shot GetBackers manga side story will appear in the next issue on February 20. Writer Yuya Aoki and artist Rando Ayamine serialized the original GetBackers supernatural action manga in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine from 1999 to 2007. In the story, two young men use their special powers to run a freelance agency to recover any person or item with an "(almost) 100% success rate." 18 million copies of the 39 compiled volumes were eventually published, and the manga spawned a popular television anime series and seven Konami games.
Ayamine has been serializing his Holy Talker manga in Kodansha's new Monthly Shōnen Rival magazine since last April. Tokyopop has been publishing GetBackers in North America since 2004, while ADV Films first released the anime version in 2004.
Magazine Special's third issue of the year also has a special double-sided poster of Clamp's Tsubasa manga.
