Yoshiyuki Tomino will appear as a Guest of Honor at the Cartoons on the Bay 2009 event in Positano, Italy during April 2-5. Tomino is best known as the co-creator of the Gundam franchise, but other notable works include Yuusha Raideen and Aura Battler Dunbine. Before he made his name with robot anime at the anime studio Sunrise, he started his career at Mushi Productions under the tutelage of Osamu Tezuka. There, Tomino worked on the first serial anime television show, Astro Boy, and other Tezuka classics.

Cartoons on the Bay, which is in its 13th year, is the home of the Pulcinella Awards for excellence in animation.
