NANA's Yuta Hiraoka to star as surgeon following in his father's footsteps

Kazuki Yamamoto's Godhand Teru medical manga will get a live-action television drama series which will premiere on April 11. 24-year-old Yuta Hiraoka (live-action Boku wa Imōto ni Koi o Suru's Haruka Yano, NANA's Shōji Endō) will star as Teru, a surgeon who seeks to follow in his brilliant father's footsteps. Although generally a clumsy and inept individual, in dire situations Teru exhibits "god hands" that allow him to perform even the most complicated surgeries.

Asami Mizukawa will play the part of Kozue Shinomiya, the female lead, a rival doctor. Other cast members will include Eri Murakawa (as Ayano Sakura), Jun Kaname (as Ren Shinomiya), Hirofumi Araki (as Manabu Nishimura), Tetsuya Bessho (as Shuichi Kitami), and Atsuro Watabe (as Junji Yasuda).

The original manga has been running in Weekly Shōnen Magazine since 2001, and the 44th volume was just published in December.
