New Say Hello to Black Jack Web Chapters to Be Priced at Y30

Shuho Sato's old manga to be priced at Y10 per chapter for 1 year of reading

Shuho Sato, the creator of the Say Hello to Black Jack, Umizaru, and The Isle of TOKKOU manga, revealed in a Sunday blog entry that he plans to price the online versions of his Shin Black Jack ni Yoroshiku (New Say Hello to Black Jack) manga chapters at 30 yen (about US$0.30) each for a one-year period. Sato had announced last week that he plans to release the manga online one month after its magazine publication. He will charge only 10 yen (US$0.10) per chapter for his older manga works. Sato has yet to announce when his online service will start.

Sato plans to charge for his manga via credit card payments in 300-point increments, with one point being equal to one yen (US$0.01). As of April 21, the business model he is currently considering would allow users to "purchase" manga to read anytime within one year. Between last month and this month, Sato's blog entries described the state of the manga industry which led to his decision to post manga online. The Canned Dogs blog has posted a more in-depth translation of his blog entries.

Another veteran manga creator, Kazuo Koike, began publishing his latest Lone Wolf and Cub manga online last Tuesday after his short-lived Jin print magazine ended last year in the middle of the manga's run.
