SMAP Band's Kusanagi Arrested for Alleged Indecency

posted on by Egan Loo

The Yomiuri Shimbun paper and other Japanese media outlets are reporting that Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, a member of the SMAP entertainment group, has been arrested for public indecency on Thursday morning. A male living near Hinokichō Park in Tokyo's Minato Ward called authorities at about 2:55 a.m. about a drunk person making a disturbance in the park. Police reportedly discovered the suspect in the park, where he was said to be naked and shouting. An alcohol breathalyzer test administered that morning gave a 0.8 mg/L reading, which is 5.3 times the legal limit of 0.15 mg/L.

Like the rest of his bandmates, Kusanagi has been busy in the Japanese entertainment industry not just in music, but also in film, television, and commercials. Kusanagi played Peter in The Diary of Anne Frank anime movie and Kouichi in Hime-chan's Ribbon. He is also starring in the Yume o Kanaeru Zō television anime and will star in Ballad: Namonaki Koi no Uta-, a live-action historical romance loosely based on the plot of the Crayon Shin-chan: Arashi wo Yobu Appare! Sengoku Daikassen film. The Nikkan Sports newspaper reported this month that Hollywood figure Leonardo DiCaprio was considering casting the members of SMAP as the main leads in Warner Brothers and Appian Way's proposed live-action adaptation of the Ninja Scroll anime film.
