Go Nagai Wonderland Museum Opens for Mazinger Z Creator
posted on 2009-04-27 00:48 EDT
The city of Wajima in the western Japanese prefecture of Ishikawa has opened a museum for its most famous citizen, manga creator Go Nagai, on Saturday. Among Go Nagai's numerous creations are Mazinger Z, Cutey Honey, Devilman, and Getter Robo. The city had bought an empty store and spent 123,000,000 yen (about US$1.3 million) to renovate it as the Go Nagai Wonderland Museum. The museum currently has 114 pieces of original art and a 1/9-scale, 2-meter-tall (about 6.6 feet) statue of the Mazinger Z robot in its classic rocket-punch pose. The first 50 visitors received a commemorative opening day poster signed at the museum by Nagai himself.

What's going on around Arata seems interesting, yet it's hard to care when he spends the vast majority of his time whining about how betrayed he feels.
The Blu Ray version of this dark, graphic fantasy series about blond female warriors wielding big swords offers very little that the original DVD releases did not. Though the series shows pronounced shonen influences, it is still, at essence, a very human story, and that makes all the difference.

The first story arc finishes, a second begins, and several characters either get introduced or take on new roles and allegiances as this solid but unremarkable fantasy story continues. It may not excite, but it should entertain.
