Rookies stays at #1 in 2nd week; 13th Conan film sets franchise record

Rookies: Graduation (Rookies ~Sotsugyō-), Yūichirō Hirakawa's theatrical finale to his live-action television drama adaptation of Masanori Morita's Rookies baseball manga, stayed at #2 on Kogyo Tsushinsha's Japanese box office chart during the June 6-7 weekend. According to Box Office Mojo, it earned the equivalent of US$10,858,252 on 428 screens during its second weekend for a gross-to-date of US$34,443,009.

Meitantei Conan: Shikkoku no Chaser (Detective Conan: The Raven Chaser), the 13th film based on Gosho Aoyama's popular shōnen manga about a brilliant detective trapped in a child's body, dropped from #9 off the chart. It took in US$215,741 on 303 screens during its eighth weekend. TMS Entertainment announced on June 10 that the movie had set a new record for the franchise by earning over 3.4 billion yen (US$35 million). It also notes that the original manga books have sold over 120 million copies, and that the television anime version reached its 500th-episode milestone last year. The 12th film, Detective Conan: Full Score of Fear, was the third Detective Conan film in a row to be nominated at the Japan Academy Prizes for Animation of the Year. The first 12 films were seen over 25 million times in theaters.
