Anime Song Lyricist Toshio Oka Passes Away at 92

Prolific lyricist Toshio Oka passed away in a Tokyo hospital on Tuesday at 4:02 a.m. He was 92. He was born in Fukushima Prefecture under the name of Yasukichi Nishiyama. While he was working at a newspaper company after World War II, he began writing lyrics for hit songs from the music company Nippon Columbia. Among the anime and live-action special-effects (tokusatsu) series for which he wrote songs were Science Ninja Team Gatchaman Fighter, Shinzō Ningen Casshan, Umi no Triton, and Tondemo Senshi Muteking.
