News Anime/Game/Film Composer Kenji Kawai Interviewed

The video game website GameSetWatch posted an interview with renowned composer Kenji Kawai (The Sky Crawlers, Ghost in the Shell: Innocence, Gundam 00) on February 24. In the interview, Kawai discussed how he became a musician after dropping out of college and how he started working with director Mamoru Oshii. He also talked about the differences between scoring video games and films, and his work on the soundtracks for The Sky Crawlers, the Ghost in the Shell movies, and the recently released live-action film Assault Girls.

On the whole, The Battle for Doldrey is a mixed bag of strengths and weaknesses. While that may be true of most things, there are few places where those lines are so clearly drawn as in this film.
Itazura na Kiss remains a landmark shoujo manga, despite its sometimes clumsy art; it is a story that takes “happily ever after” and asks what happens next. As the characters continue to mature and deal with the little roadblocks that life throws them, the story continues to engage readers.
