Toei Reveals Project with George Akiyama's Ashura Manga

posted on by Egan Loo
Dark drama about child's struggles during famine in medieval Japan

Toei Animation revealed at its Tokyo International Anime Fair booth on Thursday that it has a proposed project based on George Akiyama's Ashura manga. The unrelentingly dark drama follows the struggles of a child during a famine in medieval Japan. His mother was so impoverished and starved that she tried to eat Ashura at the beginning of the story.

Toei's representatives cautioned that they are not ready to announce any details on the proposed project such as possible release date or format. Toei had previously adapted Akiyama's Haguregumo manga into a film in 1982.
