The Variety entertainment news source reports that America's Legendary Pictures production company has licensed the rights to make a Godzilla film from Japan's TOHO, and it plans to open the film in 2012. Legendary Pictures is co-producing and co-financing the film with Warner Brothers. Legendary Pictures will announce the director soon and has indicated that its version will hew closer to the original 1954 film rather than Sony's 1998 Godzilla remake. Dan Lin (Sherlock Holmes), Roy Lee, Brian Rogers, Yoshimitsu Banno, Kenji Okuhira, and Doug Davison will be executive producers on the film.
