posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The Shirley Jackson Awards, which recognize "outstanding achievement in the literature of psychological suspense, horror, and the dark fantastic," has announced its 2010 nominee list on Thursday. Nominated in the Single-Author Collection category was Otsuichi's science-fiction novel ZOO.
ZOO is a collection of 11 dark fantasy and science-fiction short stories — five of which were adapted into a film in 2005. Besides ZOO, Otsuichi also penned the Goth horror novel and manga (both published by Tokyopop), Calling You manga (Tokyopop), and Production I.G's computer-animated Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror film. In addition to getting a manga adaptation, the ZOO collection's "Song of the Sunny Spot" short story was animated in a 2005 film.
The winners will be announced at the Readercon 21 convention in Burlington, Massachusetts during the July 8-11 weekend.
