posted on by Egan Loo
1-shot story is 1st new chapter in 13 years; Mayu Sakai, Ayumi Shiina, others also in Ribon Fantasy Zōkan-gō

The second issue of Shueisha's Ribon Fantasy Zōkan-gō magazine will ship on October 22 with a new chapter of I.O.N., the first manga series that Arina Tanemura (Full Moon O Sagashite, The Gentlemen's Alliance Cross, Kamikaze Kaitō Jeanne) created. The manga follows Ion, a girl with telekinetic powers. The upcoming one-shot story is the first new I.O.N. chapter in 13 years. Tanemura is not only drawing the 32-page story with a color opening page, but also illustrating the magazine issue's cover.

Shueisha launched Ribon Fantasy Zōkan-gō, a spinoff from the main Ribon magazine, in October of 2009 to publish short fantasy-themed manga stories. The first issue contained Clematica Kutsuten by Mayu Sakai (Rockin' Heaven, Nine Puzzle), and the upcoming second issue will have a new 50-page Clematica Kutsuten story. The second issue will also have Dream Medicine by Ayumi Shiina (Baby Love), a special one-shot spinoff of Zekkyō Gakkyū by Emi Ishikawa, Butterfly Days by Natsumi Ouchi (Aozora Pop), Coji-Coji by Momoko Sakura, Fushigi no Mori no Riru by Megumi Mizusawa (Hime-chan no Ribon), Mō Jū-tachi no Iru Tokoro by Saori Ōoka (Petit Parade!!), Izayoi Masquerade by Konatsu Okano, Miss Kiss! by writer Fuyu Tsuyama (Shitsuji-sama no Okiniiri) and artist Tsubaki Nakashima, and others.

I.O.N. originally ran in the main Ribon magazine in 1997. Along with Full Moon and The Gentlemen's Alliance†, Viz Media published the one previous volume of I.O.N. in North America in 2008.
